Woman Stabbed Dead While Jogging in DC

On September 18th, 2018, a woman was stabbed and killed while jogging at night. The stabbing was reported to have happened a little before 8 p.m. on 11th street. The police have been investigating, and have asked the public for their help to identify the victim. A nearby Chinese restaurant was able to access footage of the victim leading up to her death.


The victim was identified as a 35-year-old Wendy Karina Martinez. The footage gained show Martinez bloody and weak as she stumbled around the street looking for help. Some bystanders were able to help her while the ambulance got to her and transported her to a nearby hospital. She was pronounced dead later that day. Martinex lived close by and was believed to be an avid runner.


The stabber, a male, was unidentified, and the DC Police Department is offering up to a $25,000 reward for anyone who is able to help identify the victim. He was believed to be heavily intoxicated that night, and picture evidence shows him to be wearing a mustard colored shirt. At first, the police thought there may have been two suspects, but decided otherwise later.

People around the state have all felt tensions after this event, as this is just another case of an American city being perceived as safe. This comes to show that even if you are in the safest city, it is necessary to take precautions and make sure you are completely safe before engaging in any activity. Martinez’s death will be a tragedy to be remembered, and people around the nation should use it as a lesson to ensure their safety.
