The Green Hope Falcons were in a full week of competition last week. Some teams are making deep runs in their prospective postseason and others are beginning to close out their regular season. Let us take a look at how our athletic teams performed.

Tennis: The team defeated Apex Friendship 5-0 in the second round of the NCHSAA dual team playoffs. Anna Rico and Sophia Gray made Green Hope history. The duo is the first doubles pair to ever win the individual doubles state championship. The team will take on Panther Creek today.

Cross Country: The Falcons competed in the NCHSAA Mideast Regional on Saturday. The men’s team finished second, only six points behind Cary. All seven members of the team ran a personal best time. The women’s team finished second as well, losing to a strong Cardinal Gibbons side. Bailey Fowler led the team with a time of 19:33. Both teams take part in the NCHSAA State Championship this Saturday in Kernersville.

Football: In a big conference match, the team fell to Durham Jordan 27-18. The team now has a record of 3-1 in conference. Green Hope’s defense could not contain Ben Miller of Jordan. The quarterback threw for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns in cold and rainy conditions. The Falcons take on Panther Creek at home on Friday.

Volleyball: Green Hope advanced two more rounds in the state playoffs, both coming in straight set victories. The first was against cross-town rival Cary. The second was against a solid Wakefield team. On Tuesday, the team will compete in the state quarterfinals against South Central.

Soccer: Rising to number one in the state rankings, the team had everyone gunning to take them down in a tough conference. Durham Jordan successfully beat the Falcons 2-1, but the team came back and beat rival Panther Creek to claim the Tri-6 conference title. To close out the regular season, the team travels to Cary today.
