Soccer Beats Athens, on to Semifinals

Patrick Dunn, Sports Writer

On Saturday, November 10th, the Green Hope Men’s soccer team took on the Jaguars of Athens Drive in the state quarterfinal playoff game. The game was the third matchup between these two teams this year. Green Hope bested their conference rivals twice already this year and the domination continued.

The Falcons shut out the Jaguars for the second time this year, by a score of 3-0. The scoring was opened by senior Josh Mohess. The last two goals were put in by leading scorers Dylan Enseling and Sam Durand.

Green Hope now turns their attention to the semifinal game against Cardinal Gibbons. The Falcons played the Crusaders earlier in the season in the Wake County Cup group stage. Green Hope prevailed, propelled by a two goal performance and an impressive match in goal for senior keeper Matt Hayes. The Falcons look to extend their winning streak and earn a spot in the state championship match. The team plays tonight at 6pm at home. The first 50 students get in for free and the theme is a blackout. Come out and cheer on your Falcons!
