On Saturday, November 17th, the Falcons take on the Mustangs of Myers Park in the state championship game. After the Falcons’ comeback victory on Tuesday at home, they look to win their second state championship in three years.

Green Hope and Myers Park have a history in soccer. This will be the first time the rivals play each other this season. In the past 7 years, Green Hope and Myers park have met in two state championships. The first matchup in 2011 was thrilling, after trailing 1-0 early the Falcons had a late goal in the second half to tie the game. The game went into overtime and Green Hope midfielder Rodrigo Ortiz struck a goal to put the Falcons up 2-1 and win the game. The second game was just as exciting, the game was tied for the first 66 minutes, Green hope scored two goals in the last 14 minutes of the game and won 2-0.

This game will be very emotional, as it will be the last game all the seniors play, win or lose. For Colin O’Brien, Patrick O’Neill, Josh Mohess and Dylan Enseling this will be a chance to win their second state title, as they were all a part of the 2016 state championship team. When asked about his opportunity to win a second state championship, Josh Mohess stated, “I feel pretty fortunate, because not many people even get the opportunity to go to one state title. Shoutout to Cho.”
