On January 23rd, Green Hope takes on Panther Creek as the first part of the rivalry this season. Green Hope looks to bounce back from a tough loss to the #1 ranked team in the state (South Central). The Falcons are led by seniors PJ Fenton (17.5 ppg and 8.2 rpg) and Justen Grant (7.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg). Justen scored a career high 22 points last week against against Riverside and will look to build off of his stellar performance. Green Hope will also look for contributions from juniors Tavaras Vann (6.6 ppg and 4.1 rpg) and Jalen Corprew (6.1 ppg and 3.6 rpg) who have both steadily made improvements throughout the year and are now fourth and fifth on the team in scoring.
Over the past three years, Green Hope is 6-3 against Panther Creek. Last year, Green Hope got the last word by knocking Panther Creek out of the playoffs in the second round 69-65. Tonight’s big matchup will be between the two big men, PJ Fenton and Justin McKoy, who are both their teams leading scorers. In the last matchup, PJ Fenton went 10-12 for 21 points on McKoy. Senior Captain Garrett (The Garrison) Williams said, “They’re a talented team so we’re going to need to play to our full potential. It should be a good one. I’m excited.” Green Hope will look for contributions from juniors Jalen Corprew and Tavaras Vann on the defensive side of the ball.
Come support your Falcons tonight at home. The theme is a TOGA OUT (if you can’t figure it out, wear white). Varsity tips off is at 8pm.
