GH Weekly Wrap-Up 1/20-1/26

Championship season has officially began for some sports teams. Other teams are on the back stretch of their regular season and hoping to make a strong push to the playoffs. Green Hope was able to claim their first pieces of hardware of the Winter season, with many more possibilities to come. Let us recap how the Falcons performed in the first week of the second semester.

Swimming & Diving: On Saturday, the team competed in the Tri-6 championships at the Triangle Aquatic Center. Both teams were able to easily claim the conference title. The Men scored 438 points and the Women scored 443 points. These strong performances allowed the Falcons to claim the overall team title with a score of 881, with the closest competition being Panther Creek with a score of 606. Michael Ivy, Sydney Morgan, and Maria Baric were named conference swimmers of the year. The next competition is this Saturday at Greensboro Aquatic Center as they compete in Regionals.

Women’s Basketball: The Lady Falcons claimed a huge Fight For 55 point last week, beating Panther Creek by a score of 71-49. Nia Washington and Sammi Sever were dominant on both sides of the ball. The team then traveled to Cary on Friday to take on the Imps, and fell short by a score of 55-47. Green Hope takes the court again on Tuesday at Athens Drive.

Indoor Track & Field: Green Hope traveled to JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem to compete in the Mondo Elite Invitational. Thomas Vo qualified for the state meet with a time of 2:37 in the 1000m run. This is the third individual event he has qualified in. Bailey Fowler ran a Green Hope #4 all-time 500m run with a time of 1:20. The team competes again this Saturday at the UNC Last Chance Invitational.

Wrestling: Last week, the tam had senior night against Holly Springs. Green Hope was able to defeat the Golden Hawks dominantly, scoring 46 points to the opponents 25. The team finished their conference season with a record of 3-2. The Falcons now wait to see if they qualified for a Wild Card spot in the Dual Team playoffs.

Cheerleading: Green Hope competed in a Wake County meet this Saturday at Apex Friendship High School. The team had a strong performance, receiving a second place finish. They take the stage again this weekend.

Men’s Basketball: The team took on two conference opponents last week. Green Hope first played Panther Creek in a big Fight for 55 match. The Falcons kept it close with the Catamounts for the majority of the game behind a great game from PJ Fenton, who scored 25 points. The team fell to the Catamounts, and then traveled to Cary, where they lost another close competition. Green Hope is back in action Tuesday at home versus Athens Drive.
