The Green Hope Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams will be competing in the 4A NCHSAA State Championship this Thursday at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Both teams are coming off of winning the Central Regional Championship last Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Green Hope has 21 swimmers and 3 divers competing at the state meet. The Men’s team is looking for a repeat after a perfect season and the Women’s team are looking for an upset.

The post-season has already been good for the Falcons, as they have combined for 4 trophies already. These included the conference championship and regional championship for both Men’s and Women’s teams. Individuals like Michael Ivy and Maria Baric/Sydney Morgan won Conference Swimmer of the Year. We were able to sit down with Ivy and Morgan to interview them before their big State Championship Meet.

“What makes this years team special?”
Michael Ivy – “This season our team does not have as much depth, but we are faster as individuals.”
Sydney Morgan – “Every member of the team supports each other and we are a close-knit group.”

How do you think the season as gone so far?
Ivy – “I think we have had a relatively good season so far. We are undefeated on the season right now going into States.”
Morgan – “It has gone pretty well, both the guys and the girls won at Regionals and we are looking forward to competing at the state meet.”

How have you prepared yourself for the upcoming state meet?
Ivy – “As a team, we have had to make adjustments to our lineup. As well, we’ve had a taper week at practice to make sure we are ready.”
Morgan – “We are making sure we come to practice everyday so that we will be ready to go on Thursday.”

What is your pre-meet routine?
Ivy – “I drink a smoothie and listen to Lil Wayne.”
Morgan – “I drink coffee and hang out with my teammates.”

How do you see the team performing on Thursday?
Ivy – “I think that we will win a close meet. It will probably be decided by 20 points or so.”
Morgan – “I think we will do really well. There is some tough competition, but we are looking to place as high as we can.”

Michael Ivy, Sydney Morgan, and the rest of the team are looking forward to the competition at the State Championship and going against the best in North Carolina. There are rumors of Coach Regan jumping into the pool if the Falcons can take the win. Make sure to head out to Triangle Aquatic Center to cheer on your Falcons. The Finals start at 4:45 pm.
