The Winter sports season is now coming to a close for many teams at Green Hope. The Falcons were able to add another State Championship to their tally for the 2018-2019 school year. Let us recap how all of our teams performed.
Swimming & Diving: The Men’s team repeated as NCHSAA 4A State Champions as they demolished the field at the competition. Green Hope scored 267 points, with the second place team scoring 192. State Champions from the team include the 400 yard relay and the 200 yard relay, with many second place performances as well. The Women’s team placed third as a team with a score of 209. Maria Baric claimed a state championship in the 50 yard freestyle.
Indoor Track & Field: The team competed in the NCHSAA 4A State Championships at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. The Men’s 4x800m relay finished third in the state with a season best time of 8:09. In the Women’s High Jump, Aubry Dreikosen placed fourth with a height of 5-04. Adam Kaakati placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 6-02. The last individual to place was Thomas Vo in the 1000m, who placed sixth with a time of 2:34.
Men’s Basketball: The team went 1-1 last week after playing both Jordan and Panther Creek. Green Hope took down the other Falcons in double overtime, winning off of a last second bucket. The team was not able to pull the win in a tough matchup with Panther Creek. The next competition for the team is this Friday at home versus Cary.
Women’s Basketball: Green Hope played both Jordan and Panther Creek as well last week. The first matchup proved a tough one as the team fell to Jordan. The Lady Falcons were able to rebound and claim a Fight For 55 point with a huge win over Panther Creek last Friday. The next competition for the team is Friday at home versus Cary.
Wrestling: Some individuals from the team competed in the Regional Championships to try and claim a place in the state competition this weekend. Cole Furrie (106), Ian Viana (113), and Jacob Benavente (138) all qualified. These three Falcons will travel to the Greensboro Coliseum to take on North Carolina’s best this upcoming week.
