On February 21st, Reggie Fils Aime, president of Nintendo of America announced his retirement after fifteen years of working at Nintendo, and thirteen years of acting as its president and COO. Many remember his efforts during the Wii and DS era of nintendo, where he worked on such projects as Nintendogs, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit, focusing mostly on games that appealed to wider audiences. During his run as president, he helped nintendo break plenty of sales records, through the Wii, DS, and Switch systems. Many fans of Nintendo as well as members of the gaming industry will remember him through his charisma, genuine love for his craft, and the phrase “my body is Reggie” will never fail to enter a Nintendo fan’s mind when thinking about his work. He is set to retire on April 15th, and plans to spend time with his family and friends.

After his retirement was announced, he released a video on Nintendo of America’s twitter, which thanked all Nintendo fans for the strong bond that they all shared, thanking everyone for 15 great years at the company. “Thank you for your never-ending support, and for your passionate love of Nintendo,” he said to Nintendo fans in his message, “ and for giving me a mushroom kingdom of memories that I will never forget.”

Reggie is to be replaced by Doug Bowser, the current chief Marketing Executive who joined the Nintendo of America team in May 2015. Many fans are wary, as he shares the same name as the main villain of the Mario franchise, but are optimistic nonetheless, and look forward to a new era for Nintendo.
