Two sports are left competing this Winter sports season, as both the Men’s and Women’s are competing in the NCHSAA State Playoffs this week. The Women’s team were almost guaranteed a spot before the Tri-6 tournament. The Men’s team had to go on a strong run to catch a last chance bid into the dance. Let us review how each of these teams performed in the Tri-6 Championship.

Men’s Basketball: Going into the Tri-6 tournament as the number five seed, the team went on an upset streak. First, knocking off Cary for the second time in four days. Then they went on to upset the number one seed Athens Drive in a double overtime thriller. Green Hope went all the way to the championship game, where they lost a close one with Panther Creek. The Falcons did all they needed to in order to make the playoffs and will be traveling to Broughton on Tuesday for the first round.

Women’s Basketball: The Lady Falcons were the three seed in the conference tournament. Their first round matchup was against rival Panther Creek and the team won easily. Nia Washington scored her 2,000th career point during that game. Green Hope then fell short against Jordan in the semi-finals. The team travels to Rolesville on Tuesday for the first round of the state playoffs.

Spring sports season is now just around the corner as teams begin competition this week. Many more updates will be coming as the seasons progress.
