Green Hope Senior and back-to-back state champion Mitch Curlee has committed to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to continue his swimming career at the collegiate level. Mitch officially announced his commitment on April 10th, after a great senior season for the Falcons. Mitch was a huge part of the Green Hope Men’s Swimming Team’s success which included winning the North Carolina 4A state championship in both 2018 and 2019. Mitch was the Captain of the team and he led through his work ethic and positive energy that he brought to the pool everyday. Coach Regan awarded Mitch for his great leadership by giving him the Coaches Award. This is a huge accomplishment on a Green Hope Athletic team and says that there is more to Mitch than just being a great swimmer, he must also be a great person to get this award. Mitch was a member of the 4×50 free relay team that was #1 in the state and also the 4×100 free relay team that also was crowned state champion. These two relay teams contributed greatly to the Green Hope team earning the most points in the State Championship meet in February. Mitch had interest from many other colleges after his terrific senior season, but he ultimately chose UNC-Wilmington as he feels it is the best fit for him both in the classroom and in the pool. Mitch will be signing his letter of intent Tuesday April 21st during lunch in the Green Hope media center. Come out and support!
