If you are anything like me, you cannot wait for summer to start. However, there are some elements of this season that can be annoying. We all know that the best parts of summer are no school, warm weather, and fun events, but below is a list of the some of the worst parts of summer which are often overlooked.

Mosquitos– These pesky creatures come out in full force during the warmest months of the year just to attack us and make us bumpy and itchy. Going outside odds are you will have to deal with these annoying bugs. Not to mention their potential to make you sick, these are one of the most unbearable aspects of summer.

Being too hot– The warmth of summer is amazing. Finally, after months of bundling up in the winter to get out of the cold, we can go outside in shorts and a t-shirt. However, the heat doesn’t always know when to stop. Around here, temperatures during summer can go up into the 90s and evens break 100 degrees. I love warm weather just as much as the next person, but at some point it can become suffocating.

Flip flops breaking– The staple footwear of the summer is undoubtedly flip flops. But, these shoes are not always the most reliable. When you find yourself walking and the strap breaks, sending you tripping over your own feet, you will wish it wasn’t summer and you were back in some tennis shoes.

Sunburns-  A good tan is tempting, but sometimes the sun has other plans for you. If you forget sunblock, summer can leave your skin red and in a lot of pain.

Boredom- During the school year we always look forward to summer and all the plans we have for it. But when it actually is time to have fun, it seems like there is never anything to do and summer can feel like an endless loop of boredom.

Summer assignments- This season is supposed to be an escape from school, however teachers still find a way to give work even in the summer. Many AP classes require a summer assignment to be completed before the upcoming school year and getting this done can be one of the biggest struggles summer has to offer.

FOMO- We all know the feeling. It seems like each and every one of your friends are out travelling and doing the coolest things with their summer vacation while you are stuck at home. This “fear of missing out” is awful and only gets worse during summer.

It is important to remember as we get ourselves excited for summer vacation that is it not all great. With that said, these minor pet peeves of summer only tell a small part of the story. If you go into summer with a good attitude and positive outlook- there is no telling how much you will be able to enjoy your summer!
