There Are Worse Tragedies

Taralyn Neri, Class of 2021

Dear future Green Hope kids,

It’s not that bad. Could be a whole lot worse, actually. Don’t get me wrong, classes are stressful and demanding, and other students can be annoying, and there a whole lot of other things that you won’t like, but there are still a lot of good things too.

Fun fact, I have anxiety. Like, everyday, “I’m going to pass out” kind of anxiety. So going to school every day and staying there for seven hours really wasn’t fun for me a lot of the time. But with every bad thing I experience, I ask myself “is the struggle worth it?” And looking back at the past four years — yeah, it was.

My classes and my anxiety stopped me from enjoying a lot of things. But the things I did get to enjoy — playing charades and shoving two cupcakes in my mouth at once and having a picnic during lunch – all of those memories? Worth it, 100%. I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world.

It’s gonna suck, obviously. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and a few lights along the way that, to me, are worth it. Good luck!
