Figuring Out Who You Are

Nasir Braswell, Class of 2021

High school is all about finding yourself, your niche, and a purpose to keep you going. As a freshman you are introduced to a new world and you may feel like you have to fit in, but the complete opposite is true — sometimes you have to be a leader and not a follower, make your own mark, and then people will want to follow you.

A common thing I saw through my years of high school is the misperception that you have to be perfect or no college will want you, you have to take a lot of  AP’s, you have to do sports or do many extracurriculars that can be stressful for your mental and physical well-being — but that is also wrong. Do what you love, have such a passion for it that it overwhelms you and gets your heart pumping. That’s how you know it is meant to be. You may have an idea of what you want to do when you come in but almost all the time that changes throughout your four years of high school. So have an open mind and try new things. Like J. Cole said, nobody’s perfect, we’re human.
